A Community Garden has Sprouted at Fowler YMCA
Members of the Robert Fowler Family YMCA have a new hands-on greenspace to enjoy thanks to a recently completed organic community garden.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities will tend the garden, learn gardening techniques, grow food, and share in its abundance.
"This is a great community project, and a perfect fit with the Y and our mission to educate people about healthier living, show social responsibility and build communities," said Debbie Sutton, executive director.
The garden, which includes tomatoes and peppers, blueberry bushes, herbs such as cilantro and rosemary, and flowers that attract “good bugs” such as sunflowers and marigolds, took shape with the help of the Y community and volunteers from Comcast Cares Day.
Gardening is one of those perfect activities that feed the soul as well as the body, it allows us to become partners with nature as we coax beauty and nourishment out of the earth. Where better than at Fowler Y!
