Blue Devils Sign Letters of Intent

Six Norcross High football players committed to colleges on National Signing Day.

Six Norcross High football players signed letters of intent for different colleges on National Signing Day in front of a full auditorium.

"We take pride in what we do on the field, we take pride in what we do off the field," said head coach Keith Maloof in a live broadcast shown on PlayOn! Sports. "These young men have done an outstanding job."

The Blue Devils who signed Wednesday are:

  • Alvin Kamara (running back), University of Alabama
  • Joseph Ledford (offensive lineman), Georgetown University
  • Tommy Tate (linebacker), Western Carolina University
  • Jahmal Jones (defensive end), Middle Tennessee State University
  • Shon Akins (cornerback), Middle Tennessee State University
  • Joseph Wilber (quarterback), University of West Georgia

"I really wanted to thank my coaches and all of my linemen for being my friends over the years, and help me become the person I am today," said Ledford during his signing. "I don't think I could have done it without them. I really thank you and my parents for everything you've done for me, and I'm excited to go play football in college."

The biggest announcement of the event was Kamara's commitment, though. Named the No. 2 running back in the country, Kamara had narrowed down his choices between Alabama and the University of Georgia for a while now, and he didn't officially announce his final pick until National Signing Day.

"I wish I could say it was me that got these kids scholarships to go play college football, but it's not," said head coach Keith Maloof. "It is them. They're held at their own merit, they're held at what they do on the field and off the field. All we do is give the colleges the information that they need to evaluate these young men."

Maloof also noted that more than 60 Norcross High graduates are on college rosters playing on college football.
