City Leaders Show Off City Hall, Unveil City Logo

More than 250 attended the Open House on Sunday.

It was a grand day for Peachtree Corners - Gwinnett's newest city opened its doors to the new city hall for all to see.

"Today is among a long list of firsts for the city and is dedicated to all of our citizens," said Mayor Mike Mason, after the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open City Hall.  "We're now officially open for business, please don't hesitate to call on us, we're here for you."

Over 250 residents - and nearby residents attended the open house on Sunday to view for the first time the City of Peachtree Corners new headquarters. Gwinnett's newest, and largest, city was founded July 1, 2012.

The day included a prayer by Pastor Brian Ballard of Christ the King Lutheran Church, presentation of colors by Peachtree Corners Troop 1963, and the unveiling of the long-awaited city logo designed by Accent Creative Group of Lawrenceville.

"The community turnout is outstanding," said Julian Jackson, the city manager. "I couldn't be happier."

But it's been a lot of long hours for the new city manager who joined the city just three months ago. Jackson has been tasked with getting the city hall staffed and open and the city's services launched.

"It's been fun, challenging and rewarding," said Jackson. "I feel fortunate to be a part of it."

City Hall was decked out with original artwork compliments of Sheri Snyder, owner of Objet d'Art, a local business specializing in works by Peachtree Corners artists. The reception was also arranged by Accent Creative Group.

And along with the unveiling of the new City Hall was the city's new logo. A citizens committee made up of nine Peachtree Corners residents spent two to three months working to get the design and tag line just right for the new city.

The committee was lead by Accent Creative Group's lead graphic designer Ashleigh James. "I think it incorporates the wonderful elements of the city," said James who worked with the group to capture the energy and liveliness of the city.

"All of us are so pleased with the way the logo turned out," said Lynette Howard, who was on the committee. "The logo ties in all of the elements of Peachtree Corners, it was a real group effort."

The day brought not only local residents but mayors from surrounding cities, business and county leaders. Among those attending:

Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson
Former Norcross Mayor Lillian Webb
Berkeley Lake Mayor Lois Salter and two City Council members
Mark Thornell, Fowler YMCA's Executive Director
Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, Gwinnett County School Board Member, District III
Lynette Howard, Gwinnett County Commissioner, District 2
