Do You Support a Proposed Cell Phone Ban for Drivers in Georgia?

Legislation introduced this legislative session would ban the use of phones while driving unless the phones were hands-free devices.

There is another attempt in the Georgia legislature during the current session to get a law passed that would ban the use of cell phones while driving.

According to Biz Journal, Rep. Rahn Mayo (D-Decatur) is the chief sponsor of the legislation, which reportedly aims to prevent drivers from using hand-held phones while driving in Georgia. It does, however, allow for the use of hands-free devices. There are already laws against texting while driving.

It is not the first time Mayo has attempted to get cell phones banned, but he has been unsuccessful in the last two years to get enough votes in the House to move the bill over to the Senate. He's hoping the third time will be a charm. Mayo reportedly said passing the bill would save lives.

Do you support such a ban and do you believe the Geogia legislature will get it passed this year?

I see idiots all the time talking on their cells while driving. They don't believe they're distracted, but I can see they are. They sit at the light after it changes, they don't signal, and, they suddenly realize that they're in the wrong lane to turnturn and sit there holding up traffic waiting for the way to clear so they can make their move. Give me a break! I hope they do pass a law, but I'd be surprised.

I support such a ban completely. Because it makes such good sense and will save so many injuries, I am certain our Georgia legislature will not consider it seriously.

The problem with cell phone bans is it's the distraction not the placement of the hands that's the problem. Are we going to ban conversations with other people in the car? Eating while driving? Changing the radio station? A handsfree law is an empty gesture.

Something is absolutely needed about those who feel they must use Text behind the wheel of a car or truck… these humans are everywhere and oblivious to the the potential problem.
I doubt this do-nothing group of legislators will address this issue because it has nothing to do with their beloved pet issues of guns or taking more rights away from women and gays

Isn't texting behind the wheel already illegal?
