Dreamland BBQ, the popular restaurant located on the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Peachtree Corners Circle caught fire Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2013) evening around 5:30 p.m.

The fire appears to have caused extensive damage. Gwinnett firefighters were called around 5:20 p.m. and had the fire under control shortly after 6 p.m. said Lt. Colin Rhoden, spokesman for the county fire department.

"There were several patrons in the restaurant at the time and the manager was able to get them and the employees out of the restaurant," said Rhoden.

Rhoden said the restaurant manager saw smoke in the back of the restaurant, immediately called 911 and got everyone out of the building.

"The manager told the 911 dispatch center that there was smoke in the attic and that he was unsure where it was coming from, said Rhoden.

Sheri Snyder, the owner of Objet d'Art, whose store is located in the shopping center behind Dreamland was one of the first on the scene. "I heard the sirens and looked out and saw that the whole place was engulfed in fire," she said.

Rhoden said that when fire crews arrived, "smoke was found throughout the business" and that "fire conditions began to build and fire broke through the center of the roof."

Rhoden said there was considerable damage to the building "with the center of the roof collapsed and one of the walls towards the front burned through and that a fire investigator was on the scene.

"We're just grateful no one was injured," said Jay Lowe, Peachtree Corners council member, whose district includes the area where the restaurant is located.

And thanks to some quick-thinking Peachtree Corners Patch readers who were on the scene when the fire broke out and captured the fire and the firefighters battling the blaze, we have some great photos and videos to publish.

As a Peachtree Corners resident, I am thankful no one was injured. Thankfully, there was quick thinking of the manager to evaluate the customers. I happened to be outside during this time and heard the sirens, which always makes you wonder/worry/pray for whomever those sirens are heading toward. I hope, as the updates are made, no one is still injured and Dreamland BBQ is back in business soon! Thank you Patch for keeping us updated.

I am also thankful that nobody was injured. Please do keep us posted. I recall that when they first opened there were many complaints about the smoke they generated coating all the cars in the shopping center with a nasty film. Makes it rather ironic that it went up in smoke.

Richard: I just stopped by this afternoon and took a few photos. There appears to be extensive damage to the roof some of which has caved in. I'll keep Patch readers posted when I have some news to share. Thanks for your comment.

Very good articles, and the photos and video are tops. Glad no one was hurt and look forward to updates including re: rebuilding. As an aside, Dreamland had a chimney fire in Montgomery last year, and I hope they find out the causes for these fires.
