Fitting A Square Peg Into A Round Hole

Make sure to take accurate room measurements before shopping for new furniture.

You have recently found the perfect sofa and the delivery truck is backing into the driveway now! You anxiously wait for the deliverymen to leave so you can start tweaking the room.

The door barely closes when you are struck with the overwhelming feeling that they delivered the wrong piece. It looks the same, but seems so much larger than the one you purchased.

Suddenly, your room looks half the size it was, and there is no room for the coffee table or end tables. This is a common scenario and can be a costly mistake.

Furniture showrooms are huge and have high ceilings that make the furniture pieces look smaller. When those pieces are placed in most of our homes, the lower ceilings and smaller square footage seem to make the pieces grow.

Before shopping for new furniture, you should have accurate room measurements and a space plan to assure you have good traffic flow.

Another thing to consider when buying furniture is the path it has to travel within your home or building to reach its proposed place.

Be sure the doorways or stairs are wide enough, or if traveling up an elevator, that the elevator is large enough to accommodate the piece and the movers.

Furniture pieces come in a variety of sizes and shapes so finding the correct fit should not be a problem if you plan ahead.
