Former Gwinnett Police PIO Resigns After Arrest on Pandering Charges

Cpl. Brian Kelly, who served as public information officer for about two years, resigned before being fired today.

A former public information officer for the Gwinnett County Police Department resigned today after being charged in Barrow County two weeks ago with pandering, or soliciting a prostitute, according to a GCPD news release.

Cpl. Brian Kelly of GCPD was arrested on May 31, 2012 by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, the release says. Gwinnett Police learned of this arrest on June 11.

Barrow Patch's Docket Book from May 28-31 lists Kelly as a resident of Dacula.

Kelly was a public information officer for the GCPD for about two years, ending in late 2010, and he had been employed as a police officer with the GCPD since October 2003.

According to a press release from the GCPD, Kelly did not report that he was an officer to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, and he did not report his arrest to the GCPD. Officers of the Gwinnett County Police Department are required to immediately report arrests to their supervisors. Due to the above actions, Kelly was served with a letter of intent to terminate his employment. Kelly resigned in lieu of the termination Tuesday afternoon.
