GCPS Board Challenger Raising Funds

Falk, a founding board member of Ivy Prep, lists $2,750 in itemized contributions.

The challenger for a Gwinnett County school board position has raised $2,750 in itemized contributions, according to disclosure records.

Jen Falk, a Berkeley Lake resident, lists contributions from people in Duluth and the Atlanta area, as well as out of state residents. This is according to state disclosure records provided by Falk to Suwanee Patch. The disclosures have not been posted electronically by the state.

Falk, a founding board member of Ivy Preparatory Academy, is seeking the District III seat currently held by Dr. Mary Kay Murphy. Contributions to Murphy's campaign effort total $1,250, according to state records.

“Raising money for a campaign is new to me," Falk said in a news release. "I’m not a career politician and never thought I would run for office, but the more parents I speak with about education in Gwinnett, the clearer it is that we need a more accountable, engaged representative on the school board. People across the county are contributing their money and time to this campaign because our children and the taxpayers of Gwinnett deserve better.”

District III includes Norcross, Duluth, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge high schools.

Falk lists a contribution from Mary Finn, a Georgia State University professor ($100 in March).

Falk also has been actively campaigning and soliciting funds on her Facebook page.

Nice article... thanks. Personally, I'm really happy that Jen has entered this race. I'm one of those tax payers with children in a Gwinnett County School that agrees we deserve better. I've known Jen for a number of years, as our kids grew up together going to the same schools. I am constantly amazed how knowledgeable she is on the issues and policies concerning education.

I encourage everyone in District III to get to know Jen and find out what she stands for... and then make their own decision. Her website, http://votejenfalk.com/, is pretty informative as well... Once you learn about what Jen Falk has accomplished as a concerned parent over the past several years, I anticipate you'll be like me and become really excited about the possibilities of her becoming member of the school board.

As a parent with 3 elementary school students in Gwinnett County one of my primary concerns is the quality of education available to them. Jen Falk is extremely knowledgable about educational issues and has been involved in this area for years. She will be an excellent advocate for better education in the Gwinnett County Public Schools and I am delighted she has thrown her hat in the ring. Check out her page and please consider supporting her financially. If elected Jen will be great for our district.
