Robert Fowler YMCA is hoping to grow more than vegetables through its new year-round organic garden. The idea behind the project is to plant seeds of healthy living in the lives of our children.

"The organic garden will provide children with hands-on learning opportunities to work cooperatively, to grow, nurture and enjoy fresh vegetables and establish health habits," said Mark Thornell, Executive Director of Fowler YMCA.  

This is a multi-generational garden project. Y kids, staff, members and community volunteers are coming together to garden. And the Y's senior members plan to serve as garden mentors with years of experience to share.  

"The garden was created with environmental sustainability in mind including composting and responsible water usage" said Thornell.  

A tour of the site shows new raised beds soon to be filled with herbs and assorted fall plants, as well as the location for a future rain barrel and compost system.
