Several Norcross Families Displaced Due to Apt. Fire

Residents of Arc Way Apartments battled blaze Friday night with fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived.

Fire broke out last evening at the Arc Way Apartments in Norcross causing moderate damage to three apartments and smoke damage to two others. There were no injuries.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, they found flames and smoke coming from behind one of the apartment buildings, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge.  "The occupants of the building tried to douse the flames from outside with portable fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived," said Rutledge. Their attempts were unsuccessful, however, the fire department had the blaze under control shortly after 10 p.m.

The apartments are located off Beaver Ruin Road at 4025 Arc Way in Norcross. The Red Cross was contacted to provide housing assistance for the residents whose apartments were damaged.

Five engines and two ladder trucks were called to battle the fire. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation said Rutledge.
