Speak Out: How Do You Want the City to Spend Your Money?
Peachtree Corners city leaders are preparing the FY 2013 budget which has been presented to the residents. Have you seen the proposed budget?
If you've attended the recent City Council meetings, you've seen the proposed FY 2013 budget. There's been a lot of conversation about the proposed $2.7 million the city has proposed.
Have you had a chance to review the budget? (Attached is a PDF of the 11-page document which can be printed out by clicking on the print option.)
Many have expressed their strong opposition to the City Council's recommendation. Are there any Peachtree Corners residents in favor of the budget as it stands? We'd like to hear from you.

Here is part of an article from the AJC, link included. Even one of the consultants does not think we need a call center yet until we determine the volume of calls. Please Mr. Mayor, listen to the people, as you said you would. Thank you Jay Lowe for asking questions and pushing back on this money grab power play we are in the middle of.

The council spent more than an hour going over the proposed budget, with Post 2 councilman Jay Lowe asking pointed questions about potentially spending $100,000 for a call center. City consultant John Kachmar, city manager of Johns Creek, said he would have recommended not paying for a call center until the city has a better grasp of the need and call volume.

That reads like a bully, daring the people he bullies to say something in front of the principal.
I'll tell you what I am in favor of. I'm in favor of letting the people who were elected do their job. These people did not sit around after the election, rubbing their hands together, salivating at the thought of taking your money and wasting it. They have a good reason for everything in the budget; they would be idiots not to because they know they are going to have to face a phalanx of angry voters.
If you don't like these jerks, vote them out in the next election - meanwhile, let them do the job you elected them to do.

This really brought a tear to my eye. Nonsense! Each of the council members as candidates said in every way they could that they bought in to the CVI study. They are now slaves to the new, expanded upcca hoa headed by Mason. I assume you were a supporter when it was voted on - so is this what you bought in to? Even the most outspoken candidate is now not saying a word. A few weak questions at meetings must let them sleep at night. A bunch of locals living out their political fantasies with no clue about the damage they are doing. Gwinnett is not Dekalb or Fulton; just because neighboring communities formed up as cities is no reason for this to have happened.

Judy, you must have read my mind - I was thinking the same thing as I left the meeting last night.
Mike, the purpose of the Public Hearing is for the citizens to voice their opinions on subjects. I attended both meetings on the budget where citizens could speak out - and I was wondering why there were no citizens that spoke for the budget. So I appreciate the question.
And I'm still waiting for someone to give a 'thumbs up' on the budget...
