Paddles Up! Pickleball has Arrived at the Y
Easy to learn, fast-paced game is a fun way to exercise.
PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Pickleball is a fun court sport played on a badminton-sized court - not in a jar! It is easy for beginners to learn – but can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.
It is played with a perforated plastic ball and paddles about twice the size of ping-pong paddles, with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center.
Pickleball was created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, near Seattle, and named after Pickles, a dog owned by one of the founders. The dog was known for stealing and hiding the ball.
“One of the good things about pickleball is you can learn it in one session,” said Peggy O'Toole, one of the Fowler Pickleball players. Come join in on Mondays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
