The Internet giant, Facebook, is going public and will begin selling shares on Friday. Are you in?
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the Facebook, is taking his company public. Investores have been abuzz since FB first announced the news. According to an Associated Press article the world's most popular social network will begin trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market on Friday. Facebook's IPO (initial public offering) is expected to be in the $34 to $38 per share. The Menlo Park, Calif. company could raise $16 billion when it goes public if the shares trade on the higher end. Has all the hype influenced your interest in the Facebook IPO? The Lake Lanier Islands Resort area opens for the summer on Saturday with new attractions for 2012.
Peachtree Corners unofficial "beach" -- Lanier World at Lake Lanier Islands -- opens Saturday, May 12. According to an announcement from Lake Lanier Islands Resort, LanierWorld will have some new touches this year. The main one is that a Ferris wheel and Super Slide have been added to the LanierWorld beach area that debuted in 2011. "We’ve sought to create a beach-themed entertainment district on the shores of Lake Lanier that offers something for every type of guest who passes through our gates," Lake Lanier Islands Resort CEO Mike Williams said in the announcement. Stop and Shop Food Mart to celebrate grand opening with special gas prices.
A new convenience store in Peachtree Corners is set to open on Friday, May 11, 2012, on the corner of South Old Peachtree and Medlock Bridge roads. Stop And Shop Food Mart, an independently run business, is owned by Nazir and Saiana Noorali and will sell groceries and gasoline. The new store is located next to Magnolia Bakery in space that has been empty for about a year and a half. "We'll carry the typical items usually found in a convenience store," said Saiana Noorali, "but we'll also customize what we carry for the neighborhood." The Nooralis said they'll be hiring local people to help operate the business. Peachtree Corners resident, George Scott, co-owner of a Johns Creek book store, ensures that soldiers have something to read.
George Scott has spent a lot of time and money shipping thousands of care packages containing books and personal supplies to soldiers, and with the help of his community, he's not stopping anytime soon. The co-owner of Peerless Book Store in Johns Creek created the non-profit Books for Heroes in 2009, but his mission to get books to soldiers in Afghanistan and in veterans' hospitals dates back to 2003. The Peachtree Corners resident was working in a Waldenbooks in 2003 when a man came in and bought $96 worth of magazines and asked for a box. "My buddy's in Iraq with nothing to read," the young man told Scott. "It never hit me that this was a situation," Scott said. "I thought, 'We've got to do something about this.'" So Scott began …

Nilhan Hospitality's bid to build $57 million hotel at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth now awaiting OK by Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners.
Gwinnett County is about to get a real economic boost if a developer's proposal to build a multi-million dollar hotel is approved by Gwinnett County's board of commissioners. Nilhan Hospitality, located in the new city of Peachtree Corners, was one of four companies that submitted bids for a cenvention center hotel. On Wednesday the Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Bureau's board of directors selected the Peacthree Corners firm to build a $57 million Marriott Hotel which will connect to the Gwinnett Center. The 40-year-old Peachtree Corners apartment complex is getting a major makeover by its new owner, Audubon Community.
At last the Sturbridge Square Apartment property is getting some long-overdue attention in the way of major renovations. The 272-unit rental property located on Holcomb Bridge Road has been purchased by Audubon Communities, a multi-family real estate and investment firm, which is making a major investment to update the 40-year-old complex. The complex, which has 208 apartments and 64 townhomes, also has a new name - The Centre at Peachtree Corners. "It's being completely renovated inside and out," said Property Manager Kenya Smoot. She said the renovations include: Audubon Communities, based in New York, took over in December 2011. According to its website, the company owns and manages over 15,000 apartment units.
