The Peachtree Corners City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. to consider a number of items including the approval of two new ordinances and a special use permit. The first item on the agenda is the request by Crowell Brothers Funeral Home for a Special Use Permit to add a crematory to its business which is located at 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The third month of the year was a busy one for Brandon Branham, who is responsible for processing the business license applications for the city. He processed 42 new licenses in March. One of the city's three services is code enforcement, its purpose is to ensure properties in Peachtree Corners are maintained. For those of who attended Monday's town hall at the YMCA, you met the city's code enforcement officer, Walter Osorio whose job is to not only follow up on requests from citizens but to visit the areas of the city for possible code violations. The City Council quickly worked through the agenda items at Tuesday night's meeting approving three and withdrawing one for a later decision. Newell Recycling of Gwinnett's request to add metal recycling and auto salvage operations to their Amwiler Road location was approved. Company representative Bobby Triesch requested that one of the special conditions recommended by the Planning Commission be removed. Update: March 6, 11:30 a.m. From the editor: To further clarify last night's discussion at the City Council meeting, currently second reads are required for all ordinances (laws) including land use changes such as Special Use Permits or Zoning Conditions. It was felt that it put an additional burden on businesses which is why the change was requested. However, in other cases second reads would allow citizens more time to review and provide input into the proposed ordinance. February may have been a short month, but there is a long list of business applications that were processed by the city. A total of 30 applications made their way to Brandon Branham's desk at City Hall to be processed including several auto sales businesses. City Council members Jeanne Aulbach, Alex Wright and Weare Gratwick held a Town Hall meeting Monday night at the Avocet subdivision's clubhouse fielding questions on the possible land deal on the 20+ acres known as the Roberts property located across from The Forum.
