Suniva Hiring Additional Staff as it Expands

The company expects to hire about 50 new workers, who will work in the solar photovoltaic module assembly.

Norcross-based Suniva Inc., which is located next to the city of Peachtree Corners, has announced that it will expand it operations, and that 48 new positions will open up.  Specifically, company officials said that they will expand its solar photovoltaic module assembly operations here in Georgia. Niki Broun told a crowd in Gwinnett County that her husband Paul Broun was announcing his run for the the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chambliss in 2014, according to a report.

Niki Broun can't wait for her husband, 10th District U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, to throw his hat in the ring for the 2014 U.S. Senate race, according to a report in the ViralRead blog. A post picked up by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says Niki Broun told the group Citizens Helping America Restore Government Ethics on Tuesday that her husband had her permission to run, and that he was announcing his candidacy. U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss has blamed frustration with Washington, a lack of leadership in the Whitehouse and gridlock in the Senate for his decision to not seek a third term in the U.S. Senate.

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) announced Friday that he will not be seeking a third term in Congress in 2014. According to The Washington Post, Chambliss said his decision was based on his frustration with Washington and not because he feared defeat in a primary. Crime Continues to Decline in Gwinnett Village

2012 marks the fifth consecutive year that the Norcross community improvement district, which includes a portion Peachtree Corners, has seen a drop in targeted and overall crime.

Statistics show that the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District has seen a drop in targeted and overall crime for 2012. This is the fifth consecutive year for decreased crime in Gwinnett Village, which is the largest CID in the state of Georgia and covers parts of Norcross and Peachtree Corners along Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Beaver Ruin Road, Indian Trail Road and the I-85 corridor. The annual statistics, which were provided by Gwinnett County Police, show declines in 2012 in total robbery, commercial burglary and motor vehicle thefts by 6 percent, 35 percent and 6 percent respectively, according to a news release. Online petitions in Alabama, New York, Michigan, Texas also filed and are seeking secession. Georgia petition has collected over 20,000 signatures.

Peachtree Corners voters chose Tom Rice as their representative as the Georgia State Representative for District 95.

Tom Rice, who has served as the State Representative for the Gwinnett cities of Peachtree Corners, Norcross and Berkeley Lake for the past 16 years, was re-elected last week to serve another two years. The vote was 12,851 to 8,855 in favor of Rice, a Peachtree Corners resident, over his opponent Brooke Siskin, also from Peachtree Corners. It was Siskin's first time running for the State Representative seat. How Gwinnett Precincts Voted in the 2012 Election

Mitt Romney won 98 of Gwinnett's 156 precincts.

On Election Day 2012, Mitt Romney drew 54 percent of the Gwinnett County vote by winning 98 of the county’s 156 precincts. According to unofficial results available on the Georgia Secretary of State website, Romney finished with 159,563 votes, compared to 131,879 for President Barack Obama, who won re-election nationwide. Romney dominated the vote in the county from Peachtree Corners up the Chattahoochee River to Buford, across the northern part of Gwinnett to Dacula and through a swath mostly north of U.S 78 between Snellville and Lilburn.
