Every small change you can make to impact air quality is important — and those small changes, if made by many, can really add up.
It's been all about the air we breathe for the past four days. Air Quality Awareness Week, observed Monday, April 29, through today, May 3, places an emphasis on clean air and what each of us can do to help improve air quality. It's a yearly reminder that there are simple, voluntary actions you can take to make immediate and positive impacts. One suggestion is quite simple AND it can save you money — just set your thermostat a little higher during the summer months and remember to turn off lights when you're not using them. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, power plants produce pollutants that form both ozone and particle pollution — the less power residents use, the less those plants have to work. U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) announced Friday that he will not be seeking a third term in Congress in 2014. According to The Washington Post, Chambliss said his decision was based on his frustration with Washington and not because he feared defeat in a primary. He reportedly said, in fact, he was confident he would have won re-election. “Instead, this is about frustration, both at a lack of leadership from the White House and at the dearth of meaningful action from Congress, especially on issues that are the foundation of our nation’s economic health,” Chambliss is reported as saying. “The debt-ceiling debacle of 2011 and the recent fiscal-cliff vote showed Congress at its worst and, sadly, I don’t see the legislative gridlock and …
