Atlanta Baroque Presents Handel's Messiah in its Entirety

Roswell Presbyterian Church, 755 Mimosa Blvd, Roswell, GA | Get Directions »
$25.00

Holidays in Dublin

The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Julie Andrijeski joins with the Georgia Tech Chamber Choir to perform Handel's Messiah in its entirety, using the scores from Handel's original production in Dublin, Ireland in 1742.

Four of the finest Baroque solo singers in the nation are being flown in to perform:

Soprano Teresa Wakim (Boston)
Alto Katherine Growdon (Boston)
Tenor Aaron Sheehan (Baltimore)
Bass Mischa Bouvier (New York)

Tickets are $25 at the door, $20 online in advance, with discounts for groups, seniors and students.

This same concert will also be given on Friday, November 30, at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.

Over the centuries, Messiah has become very different than Handel originally intended, with extra instruments tacked on after the fact, and larger and larger orchestras and choirs. The Atlanta Baroque is taking Messiah back to its roots, with the original arrangements and instrumentation, and a small choir.

The ABO and soloists perform the ornamentation and improvised musical turns that were used in Handel's time and which have tended to be discarded by "modern" orchestras and singers.

This will be a rare opportunity to hear Messiah, all two and a half hours of it, as close to Handel's original intention as we can get today. Join us!
