Be It!!

Be the person of your dreams today!!

Years ago, I was asked to donate my hair to Locks of Love.  I hadn't been planning on a haircut, but I quickly said "sure!" without any forethought. Now this wasn't just any old haircut.  Not just a little trim but a full THIRTEEN inches of hair would be cut.  And while long hair hadn't been my goal, neither was I convinced that I wanted thirteen inches removed....maybe 2 or 4 or even 8 ...but not 13.  This would be a drastic change!

A few days later I headed to the salon.  While en route, I had extensive conversations with my doubting self about this haircut.  How would it look?  Was I really ready?  Did I even want to do it? What if i hate it? Surely this was crazy!

But then I hit upon a gold mine of a thought....I wanted to be the kind of woman who would do exactly this kind of thing. The kind of woman who wasn't stuck on her hair being a certain way. The kind of woman who was spontaneous & trusting & not worried about a haircut. The kind of woman who knew it was just hair.  The kind of woman who knew it would grow back.  The kind of woman who wasn't afraid.  That was who I wanted to be!

And then I had an even better thought.  The only way to be that kind of woman - the kind of woman I aspired to be - was to actually BE her & get the haircut. I couldn't just be her in a fantasy. I had to be her in action.  I had to be her in the moment. I had to live it.  Do it. Be it.  Be her!  Get the haircut!

So i did it!  And I loved it!  I loved the haircut, but even more importantly I loved BEING the woman I wanted to be.

Sounds sort of basic.  Or obvious.  And it is.  It just doesn’t always feel that way in the moment.

So I’m here to remind you now… whatever it is....being spontaneous, not being shy, traveling abroad, asking for a raise, telling your spouse what you really think...the only way to be that person you aspire to be is to be it.  Be her. Be him. Be that brave, confident, proud person you've been fantasizing about.  Do it!

And most importantly, do it now!  Don’t wait!!

The only thing better than being the person of your dreams someday is being the person of your dreams TODAY!!
