LOCAL CHILDREN WIN MATHNASIUM OF BERKELEY LAKE’S 2013 TRIMATHLON CONTEST

Nationwide, Participants Raise About $20,000 for Local Schools Based on Number of Correct Answers

Top Finishers in Each Grade Entered into National TriMathlon

BERKELEY LAKE, October 21, 2013 – Berkeley Lake students put their math skills on display last weekend, earning money for local schools and winning prizes for themselves in the Mathnasium of Berkeley Lake 2013 TriMathlon contest.

Nationwide, Mathnasium TriMathlon participants raised about $20,000 for local schools in this phase of the contest to be distributed either through the website DonorsChoice.org, which allows schools to select what they need with donations accruing toward those items, or via direct donation. Participants earned money for the local schools for each TriMathlon question they answered correctly.

The Top 3 Mathnasium of Berkeley Lake winners in each of the grades represented, 2 through 5, are listed below and the 1st place winner of each grade is automatically entered in the national TriMathlon contest.

“Our Mathnasium of Berkeley Lake TriMathlon contest was a big success with students and parents alike this year, demonstrating clearly that math can be fun. The fact that the children raised money for local schools with each correct answer added a level of community service to the contest. Everyone who participated should be proud of what they’ve accomplished for their schools, their community, and themselves,” said Kevin Thi, owner of the Mathnasium of Berkeley Lake franchise.

Winners of the Berkeley Lake Mathnasium 2013 TriMathlon are:

·         Grade 5: Kevin L, Simpson Elementary,  1st Place; Aadil D, Chattahoochee Elementary, 2nd Place; Michael O, Simpson Elementary, 3rd Place

·         Grade 2: Benjamin W, Chattahoochee Elementary,  1st Place; Parv M, Chattahoochee Elementary, 2nd Place; Jonathan L, Berkeley Lake Elementary, 3rd Place

The 1st Place winners in each grade are automatically entered in the national Mathnasium TriMathlon competition, which is based on their Berkeley Lake test scores. Prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be awarded to local schools on behalf of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place national winners at each grade level. The national winners will be announced in early November.
