City's Inaugural Christmas Parade Draws Large Local Crowd

Over 2,500 attended the City of Peachtree Corners first "Christmas in the Corners" parade Saturday, Nov. 23.

The chilly, over-cast morning, didn't deter the estimated 2,500-plus Peachtree Corners residents in attending the city's inaugural parade held on The Corners Parkway, Saturday.

It was a gala event with over 65 groups including floats, marching bands, dance and school sports groups - and even the jolly old elf from the North Pole made an appearance.

Fitting for its first parade, Mrs. Jean Duke, whose late husband Paul Duke, founded Peachtree Corners, was the grand marshal.

Mayor Mike Mason, Council members Jeanne Aulbach, Lorri Christopher, Weare Gratwick, Jay Lowe and Phil Sadd road in convertibles or walked in the half-mile parade.

Also participating in the city's first Christmas parade was Gwinnett Chairman Charlotte Nash, District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard and School Board member Dr. Mary K. Murphy.

The Norcross High School Marching Band marched and performed along with a group from Pinckneyville Middle School.

And after the parade, children lined up on Candy Cane Lane to get a chance to give Santa their Christmas wish list.

Plans for the city's first parade began over the summer and serving on the Christmas in the Corners board: Sheri Snyder, president, Dax Dossmann, vice president, Carla Snyder, treasurer and Debbie Mason, sponsorship director.

Parade volunteers: Lorri Christopher, Jim Erdy, Heff Heffernan, Lori Howard, Rhonda Levan, Nancy Minor, Linda O’Connor, Steve Jones, Alan Kaplan, Paula Garmon, Ronnie Garmon, Matt Houser, Judy Jay, Robert Jay and students and teachers of Great Prospects.
