The 2011 Norcross High School Foundation of Excellence annual gala was held last week at The Fields Club in Peachtree Corners. Over 500 local supporters and parents of the high school joined in celebrating the sixth annual fund-raising event.
This year the foundation honored Cheryl Collins, Jan and Aaron Lupoloff and Daniella Taylor for their significant contributions to Norcross High School and the community. The four honorees were inducted into the Foundation for Excellence Hall of Fame which began in 2006.
Cheryl Collins is a parent of two NHS graduates and is credited with creating the Blue Angels student recognition program. In the community, she has worked with the UPCCA, the Community Council of Gwinnett County, MADAC and Meals on Wheels. She is married to Joe Collins.
Aaron and Jan Lupuloff are the parents of three NHS graduates and have worked tirelessly in numerous volunteer responsibilities at the high school. Aaron has served for seven years on the Foundation Board. Both Jan and Aaron have actively campaigned for the GCPS Foundation, CampTwinLakes, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund and other charitable causes.
Daniela Taylor, a retired NHS physics teacher, served as the NHS science department chair for 20 years and went to great lengths to procure resources for her clases, including personal pleas for financial support to Technology Park executives. She has received numerous teaching awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science & Mathematics Teaching and was named the 1986 NHS Teacher of the Year.
Founded in 2001 to provide financial assistance for the education for the high school's students, the Foundation began with a generous gift from Mr. Paul Duke, developer of Technology Park and the Peachtree Corners community.
Since 2006 the Foundation has held a spring Gala to raise money and honor members of the community. The annual Gala is the premier fund-raising event for the Foundation. Last year over $94,000 was raised. Visit the Norcross High School Foundation for Excellence website for more information.
