Middle School Kids Stay Fit at the YMCA

The Peachtree Corners facility offers an after-school fitness program for teens that includes exercise classes and healthy nutrition guidance.

When the bell rings at the end of the school day, teens need a safe, fun and healthy place to go when their parents are still at work or away from home.

, right here in Peachtree Corners, offers quality after school programs for kids. 

In the Middle School Program, in addition to helping the kids with academics, they focus on areas of healthy living.  All students in the Middle School Program participate in group fitness challenges every week.

“We try to keep our fitness fun and fresh by offering several fitness opportunities each day,” said Craig Lovingood, the program’s coordinator.  “We offer Teen Zumba and body pump twice a month, and the kids participate in weekly fitness challenges." 

The counselors also talk with the kids about proper nutrition and how to make smart changes in their diet to help them live healthier lifestyles.

“We have had students lose large amounts of weight, gain the appropriate strength for their age and meet the fitness goals they set of themselves," said Lovingood.

If you are ever in the Y between 4:30-5:15 on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon you will find the kids having fun and working hard with the counselors in the aerobic room or track.
