Having the Right Combination is Always a Good Idea

Is it ever possible to solve one problem without causing another? Sometimes I wonder.

We were away on vacation last week and all ready to go to the pool. Some would be riding bikes and some going in the car to bring the assorted paraphernalia. I, one of the bikers (that would be bicyclers-I don’t usually take my Harley to the pool), was asked to carry the combinations to the bicycle locks.

I didn’t need the written combination for my bike, already having the numbers stored in my vise-like memory banks, but the other combination was necessary for the rest of the group.

I was happy to carry the paper except for the fact that I had no pockets in what I was wearing. Ever resourceful, I stuck the written combination in the top of my bathing suit and off we went.

We had a wonderful time at the pool. The sun was shining, birds were singing, water was refreshing...you get the picture. Since I wanted to get dinner started, I hopped onto my bike and returned to our condo ahead of the others.

Soon thereafter, my son appeared, having driven the car back to inform me that I had the bike combination and needed to call my husband who was waiting at the pool for this important info.

Remembering where I had stored the number, I called my husband’s cell phone, he answered with the typical “Hey” and I proceeded with my explanation. “When I took the bike lock combination to the pool I didn’t have any place to put it so I just stuck it into the bra of my bathing suit. Ha, ha, ha. Wasn’t that crazy?’

“Who is this?” was not the response I expected. “Your wife.” Probably not the response this now youthful sounding male voice expected.

“I’m not married” he continued. “And now you probably never will be” I thought.

Ah well, another life scarred.

Before we hung up I did point out to him that at least this left him with a funny story to tell. It left me with one too.
