YMCA Offers Ways to Learn More, Live Better

Take a break from your day and enjoy lunch, fellowship and learning about healthy lifestyle topics in Peachtree Corners.

This week Fowler YMCA launched its series of “Lunch and Learns” for spring 2013, and kicked it off with a gardening session led by garden expert, Mickey Gazaway from Pike's Nursery.

Attendees at the luncheon were provided with a salad and dessert, plus Mickey Gazaway's tips on everything from potted plants to the methods of caring for annual and perennial plants and vegetable gardens.

Mickey shared words of wisdom from her father: “Usually in Georgia the last frost is no later than April 10, so you pay your taxes and then plant your tomatoes!”

Gardening doesn't have to be a huge commitment, with the right tools, a little time and easy-to-follow instructions you'll be on your way to developing your green thumb. Before you start planting, Mickey says "take time to read the information provided with the plant - if it says plant in a sunny spot, don't plant in the shade or you will be disappointed!”

Mickey's passion for gardening can inspire anyone to play in the dirt," said Kathi Jones, Senior Coordinator at Fowler Y. Members are invited to bring their lunch to the Y and learning about healthy lifestyle topics.
