Peachtree Corners Residents Turn Out for 'Community Day' at The Forum

Neighbors enjoyed a day filled with events and activities on Saturday.

The day began early with a 10K road race that started at The Forum, but ended with a full day of activities for Peachtree Corners residents who attended the first "Community Day" hosted by The Forum at Peachtree Parkway.

From a special Kidz Zone area filled with inflatable rides to strolling jugglers and face painting, there was plenty of activities for children.

It was those inflatables that drew the Cassar family. Kathleen Cassar, a Neely Farm resident watched with her youngest, 2-year-old Michaela, who thought the rides "too scary."

The Cassar's have seven children, all but their 13-year-old, their eldest was enjoying the activities. "I've got the older children teamed up with the younger ones," she explained. Along with the rides, there was a spin art activity and a rabbit doing card tricks.

But it wasn't all about the kids. Models showed off Banana Republic's latest spring line of clothes while being escorted by dogs and puppies provided by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue organization. The pets were up for adoption that day.

Sandy Varrilli, a volunteer with Angels Among Us, was modeling an attractive light gray dress and escorted by "Flower," a little black flat-coat retriever who needs a permanent home. Getting involved was easy said Varrilli who was looking for a volunteer opportunity last year. "How can I not help," she said looking into the big brown eyes of her escort, Flower.

The Forum's large fountain and pond located in the center of the shopping center had been turned into a fishing pond. Children and adults tried their luck at hooking one of the "plastic" creatures floating in the water.

Daivon Deans, a volunteer, was keeping an eye on the activity. "It's not as easy as it looks," he said while trying to catch one of the colorful critters. But the activity captured a lot of attention of both children and adults.

And what would the day be without food. Tickets were available to sample the food at The Forum's restaurants, all had tables set on the sidewalks for passersby. It was an ideal chance to sample the food and maybe try out a new restaurant.

The day's activities were caught on video and with numerous photos. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Take a look at ours to get a better glimpse of the day.
