Last Remnants of Dreamland BBQ Demolished

Early Wednesday morning a work crew arrived at the site of the burned out Dreamland BBQ and removed the tall red brick chimney.

It was all that remained of the popular restaurant since fire destroyed the building in January. The restaurant was located on the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Peachtree Corners Circle. A large backhoe made quick work of the chimney.

"I'm glad it's down, it was an eyesore," said business owner Sheri Snyder, whose business, Objet d'Art, is located in the shopping center behind the restaurant. Snyder said when she arrived at her art studio this morning, she saw the demolition crews at work.

After Dreamland BBQ notified the City of Peachtree Corners earler this month that it would not rebuild, the city sent a notice to the property owner, Moe Majidi, that he had 30 days to remove the chimney and construction fencing and clean up the property.

The popular barbecue restaurant was destroyed by fire in January, and initially the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it planned to rebuild the burned out building. Shortly after the fire, a company spokesperson had told Patch that it was working towards a May opening then moved the date to the fall before announcing on July 10, that it would not rebuild.

"Dreamland and the property's owner were unable to reach amenable lease terms moving forward," announced Betsy McAtee, the company's CEO as the reason the company made the decision not to rebuild.

Al Cushing, who owns Sign-a-Rama, a business located in the same shopping center said he'd like to see another restaurant built on the site.

"The restaurant brought in a lot of business people," said Cushing who added that he had grown tired of looking at what seemed like an abandoned construction site.

"I just hope something is built sooner rather than later," added Snyder.
