Organizers Gearing Up for 3rd Annual Peachtree Corners Festival

When it comes to planning and organizing an outdoor festival, it's never too early to begin. Just ask Linda O'Connor, who heads up the committee of volunteers for the annual Peachtree Corners Festival set for June 8-9, 2013.

It takes a host of dedicated Peachtree Corners residents who are willing to lend their time and talent each year to make the event happen.

"Peachtree Corners Festival Inc. was started in 2011 to organize and stage a fun event for the community," said O'Connor. "The idea was to provide something for everyone, from music to food to crafts to kids' activities to a car show."

The festival is held each year on Corners Parkway and Woodhill Drive, one block west of Peachtree Parkway (S.R 141).

The inaugural festival was held in early June, but the date for the 2012 festival was moved to the weekend of June 30-July 1 to accommodate Founder's Day, July 1, which was the day Peachtree Corners officially became a city.

"Unfortunately this turned out to be the hottest weekend in recorded history!" said O'Connor. "But for those who attended, exhibited and volunteered, it will be an event no one will ever forget."

O'Connor said that the festival committee has made a decision to make the second weekend in June the official date for the Peachtree Corners Festival which will allow residents and vendors the chance to plan for future festivals.

O'Connor said there has been some confusion on the festival and its relationship with the city and wanted to make clear that the festival is not associated with the city, nor is it a profit-making venture.

"Peachtree Corners Festival Inc. is a non-profit organization, completely independent of the City of Peachtree Corners and any profit-making companies," she explained. "Aside from the annual start-up funds, all profits from the festival are earmarked for the beautification of Peachtree Corners," she added.

It's not too early to be thinking ahead to next June. O'Connor said she and the festival committee are "always looking for fresh ideas and creative minds."
