Over $36,000 Raised in Fowler YMCA 2013 Rock ‘N Roll-A-Thon

The funds help families in the community to pay for YMCA programs, such as after-school care.

Members and friends of the Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA turned out last Saturday to participate in the 15th annual Rock ‘N Roll-A-Thon event and raised over $36,000.

Participants this year had the opportunity to cycle, swim, dance and shop to help support our community.

"We are so grateful that our members, community partners, volunteers, staff and guests who believe in the work that the Y is doing to make our neighborhoods a better place for everyone," said Kushuna Exford, Membership and Marketing Director.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds raised will go directly toward funding financial assistance for children and families in our community who otherwise could not afford the cost to participate in the programs and services offered by the Y."

Last year, Fowler YMCA awarded more than $180,000 in scholarships and financial assistance.

Here’s just one example of how financial assistance makes a difference in the life of a family:

"My grandson attends the after-school and summer camp programs at Fowler Y. When he came to live with us, we were not in a position to start paying childcare again.  If it had not been for the Y’s financial assistance program, I would have had to end my work day around my grandson’s school hours, which would have lowered our income so much.  Because of the Y’s financial assistance, our grandson is having fun in a safe place, doing things he enjoys, and they even help with his homework."

There are many, many more stories of how the Y has impacted the lives of children and families said Exford. "The Y can't do its work without the community's generosity. Thank you for helping us as we help our neighbors."
