Peachtree Corners Resident Named YMCA 'Volunteer of the Year'

Louise Hager was recognized for her numerous volunteer efforts including her role in setting up the Fowler YMCA's senior center library and helping with the children's garden.

In this season of thanksgiving, Fowler YMCA is grateful to the many volunteers who work hard to make our community a better place.

Each year, the Metro Atlanta YMCA bestows the title of “Volunteer of the Year” to acknowledge volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the mission of the Y.

On November 12, these outstanding individuals were celebrated at the Y's 2012 Volunteer Recognition Dinner.

Louise Hager of Peachtree Corners was honored as Volunteer of the Year for her enthusiasm and commitment to Robert Fowler Family YMCA.

“Louise loves books and wants everyone to have access to them,” says Mark Thornell, executive director of the Fowler Y in Peachtree Corners. “She played an integral role in opening a library in our senior center. She works there daily to make sure everyone feels welcome. She is a true asset to our Y.”

In addition to starting the senior center library, Hager assisted with planting a garden with children at the Fowler Y.  She is an active participant in various senior programs and volunteers her time in many capacities.

“When I walk into the Y, I feel like I belong,” says Hager. “Raising funds for the Y gives me great satisfaction because I know I’m creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy such a great organization. I truly feel that I’m making a difference in the community.”

The Y is a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility.

Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and connect.
