Volunteers Take Part in Great American Cleanup

The City of Peachtree Corners and the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association sponsored a city-wide clean up day on Saturday, April 20 as part of the Great American Cleanup.

The Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest community improvement movement. Each year thousands of volunteers spend a day in various projects such as recycling, beautification and cleanup.

In Peachtree Corners 47 men and women took part of their Saturday cleaning up designated areas of the city.

Here are the numbers:
98 bags filled
8 illegal signs (those placed in the right of way)
395 estimated pounds of debris collected
47 volunteers
114 man hours

Six dfferent teams worked on the following areas:
Sites – Hwy 141 northbound from Peachtree Corners Circle to the River  (two teams)
Peachtree Corners Circle from Holcomb Bridge to Jones Mill
Jones Mill Road
Peachtree Industrial Boulevard from Crowell Brothers Funeral Home to the shopping center
Jimmy Carter Blvd from Holcomb Bridge Road to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Thanks to Mayor Mike Mason, and Council members Phil Sadd, Alex Wright, Jeanne Aulbach and Lorri Christopher for donning an orange vest and gloves and going after debris along our roads.

Most of the volunteers worked about an hour and 1/2 except for the team led by Samuel Rochester. That group of five worked eight hours along Jones Mill Road.

A special thanks to BB&T for donating bottled water for all the volunteers.
