Artworks! Gwinnett to Present Awards at Fundraiser

Artworks! Gwinnett announced it is seeking nominations for individuals, businesses and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts and deserve being honored at its inaugural “Fusion: 1st Annual ArtWorks! Gwinnett Awards.” Artworks! Gwinnett, the countywide arts consortium, will host the awards presentation Monday, Jan. 23, at the in Duluth.

Award nominations close on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 5 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for the “Fusion: 1st Annual ArtWorks! Gwinnett Awards.” Artworks! Gwinnett, the countywide arts consortium, has stimulated arts activity in Gwinnett County since launching fulltime in June 2010.

The public may make nominations in 12 categories for efforts made from Dec. 1, 2010, through Dec. 1, 2011. Educators may nominate in student categories. Nominees must be individuals, organizations or businesses that have resided, worked or conducted business in Gwinnett County. In addition to the winner, up to two honorable mentions may be announced in some categories.

Individuals may not nominate themselves, but partnerships, businesses and organizations may self-nominate.

The ArtWorks! Gwinnett Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual who has consistently contributed to the advancement of Gwinnett’s arts community throughout their career. This award honors an artist, arts administrator or arts volunteer who has contributed greatly to the advancement of the Gwinnett arts community through dedicated efforts and/or outstanding achievements in the arts.

Community Impact Awards recognize significant community impact in the following categories:

• Arts Educator recognizes an arts educator or administrator working in private or public k-12 or higher education in Gwinnett.
• Arts Presenter recognizes a Gwinnett non-profit arts presenting organization (e.g., museum, theater or dance company) of any discipline.
• Creative Business recognizes a for-profit arts-related business (recording, music or production company/studio, architecture firm, performance venue, etc., or individual commercial artist (architect, designer, filmmaker, designer, etc.)
• Arts Leader recognizes an arts leader, administrator or manager from a non-profit arts organization in Gwinnett.
• Artist recognizes an artist of any discipline.
• Arts Ensemble or Collective recognizes an arts ensemble or collective working in any discipline.
• Arts Partnership recognizes a partnership yielding significant community impact in which at least one of the partners is an artist or non-profit arts organization.
• Community Arts Program recognizes a community arts program. (Category open to organizations such as schools, festivals, libraries, municipalities, neighborhood associations, local arts associations, arts commissions/councils, economic development programs, non-arts non-profits (hospitals, faith-based non-profits, social service organizations, etc.), and Community Improvement Districts.
• Arts Volunteer of the Year recognizes a dedicated volunteer whose service in the arts has made a significant community impact.
• Gwinnett Corporate Arts Citizen of the Year – Business recognizes the significant impact of a corporation involved in the arts through support or service.
• Gwinnett Corporate Arts Citizen of the Year – Business Person recognizes the significant impact of a business leader involved the arts through support or service.

Nominations must be submitted as a separate email to info@artworksgwinnett.org. Each nomination must contain the awards category, contact information for nominee and nominator, and a 1,000-word-or-less description of the reasons for the nomination including impact of the nominee’s work on the community. Nominations may be in narrative or bullet point format. Up to five optional supportive materials (links to online material, resumes, notes of support, etc.) may be included. Nominators should contact ArtWorks! if they do not receive a confirmation of their submission.

ArtWorks! Gwinnett is also accepting nominations by Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. from Gwinnett educators for the ArtWorks! Gwinnett Student Awards for Exceptional Arts Achievement for the same period.

Arts educators and school administrators working with students in public or private schools (kindergarten-higher education) located in Gwinnett may nominate current students from their schools for the student awards which will be presented at a ceremony in February. Student Awards will be presented in kindergarten-5, 6-8, and 9-12 grade categories as well as higher education (college and graduate school) categories.

Each nomination must be emailed to info@artworksgwinnett.org and must contain the category, nominator and nominee school and personal contact information, and a 1,000-thousand-word-or-less description of the reason(s) for the nomination, including impact of the nominee’s work on the community. Optional supporting materials (maximum of five items) may also be submitted.

ArtWorks! Gwinnett is a non-profit, tax-exempt arts “umbrella” organization and proponent working to increase visibility and support for arts and culture in the county.
