Hudgens Arts Finalists Announced for $50,000 Prize

All four artists will display their work in the Finalists Exhibition June 8 through Sept. 7 at the Hudgens Center for the Arts.

The Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth has announced the four finalists for the prestigious $50,000 Hudgens Prize. The prize includes a solo exhibit for the artist at The Hudgens.

The finalists are Christopher Chambers of Atlanta, Robbie Land of Atlanta, Derek Larson of Statesboro, and Pam Longobardi of Atlanta. Competition for the prize is open only to Georgia residents.

They were chosen from a pool of 370 applicants by a jury of curators from three top art institutions – the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Menil Collection in Houston and AMOA/Arthouse in Austin.

“This has been an exciting process, and after working tirelessly for many months to bring the competition to this point, it is nice to finally be able to announce the finalists,” said Angela Nichols, director of programming & exhibits at the Hudgens, in a press release. The Hudgens Prize competition is one of the biggest and most exciting things that we do as an organization, and we’re so fortunate that we are able to offer this opportunity to Georgia artists.”

The $50,000 prize is one of the largest art awards in the nation. The purpose of the prize competition is to elevate and promote the arts in Georgia and offer a transformational opportunity for the winning artist.

All four artists will display their work in the Finalists Exhibition June 8 through Sept. 7 and will receive a $1,500 cash stipend to help cover expenses relating to the exhibition.

The prize winner will be announced at the Hudgens Prize Award Celebration Aug. 10. 

The first Hudgens Prize was awarded in 2010 to artist Gyun Hur of Atlanta.
