Laser Voyage Cafe Opens Near Peachtree Corners

New Buford Highway attraction offers laser tag arena, laser maze, and popular arcade games.

Laser Voyage Café, a new family entertainment center that opened in Duluth New Year’s Eve, offers pirate-themed laser tag in a two-story arena, an arcade filled with cutting-edge games, and the very first laser maze in Georgia. The laser tag arena features a spectacular 55-foot-long pirate ship with three ramps for play.

In the laser maze, designed by Funovation, players dodge a network of more than 20 lasers to reach a secret treasure chest. Players are timed and compete to achieve the lowest score.

Players can choose from eight different games in the laser tag arena including capture the flag and Zombie. “We can vary the levels of difficulty to accommodate everyone from new to competitive players,” General Manager Brian Luallan said. Individual or team play is available. The laser tag arena, the only two-story facility in the metro Atlanta area, can accommodate up to 21 players, he said.

Competitive league play and tournaments will begin in spring, he said.

In the cafe lobby, others can watch participants in laser tag and the laser maze on high-definition wide-screen monitors.

Games in the arcade include Razing Storm, a popular shooting game; NASCAR Team Racing, and the newest version of the Pump It Up dancing game with 350 songs. There’s also Jumping Jack Pod, a jump rope simulation game that’s fun and physical, Luallen said.

Other arcade games include Deal or No Deal, based on the TV game show; Big Buck World Safari, a hunting game; Super Shot basketball with a moving hoop; Skeeball, a baseball toss game; and Fire Storm, an air hockey game.

Pac-Man’s Arcade Party offers 20 different versions of the popular 1980s video game. Next to it is a Whac-A-Mole game suitable for 3-,4-, and 5-year-olds, so parents and children can play side by side.

A giant crane in the center of the arcade offers players the opportunity to win prizes. If they fail to pick up one, there are consolation prizes. “There’s a guaranteed winner every time,” Luallen said.

Game tokens are four for a dollar in machines located throughout the arcade or five for a dollar if $20 worth are purchased at the register. Games require one to five tokens to play.

Laser Voyage Café was developed by Duluth resident Bob Kourieh, chief executive officer of The Jade Group, a Duluth-based company. “Bob and his family wanted an excellent experience at an attraction located right here,” Luallen said. “They didn’t want to drive very far.”

Luallen, who has an interest and involvement with special attractions, was hired as general manager close to the opening. His experience includes Netherworld, the Atlanta Renaissance Festival, and Stone Mountain Park.

Laser Voyage Café sells snacks, pizza, hot dogs, fries, gourmet coffee, and gelato. The café uses a special convection oven that crisps rather than fries foods to make them healthier, Luallen said. Gelato is served because it contains less fat than ice cream, he said.

Hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 3-9 p.m.; Friday, 3-11 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Closed Monday. Laser Voyage Café is located at 1866 Buford Highway between Duluth and Suwanee. For more information, call 404-309-3888 or visit www.LaserVoyage.com.

“We want to reach out to families in Duluth and Suwanee and offer them an excellent “world-class” entertainment experience right in their own back yard," Luallen said.

Laser Voyage Café also offers private parties, corporate events and birthday parties. In addition, the café has an educator who can teach school children about optics and lasers on field trips to the attraction. A fund-raising program to benefit local schools is being developed.
