The Nutcracker Ballet Comes to Perimeter Church

Peachtree Corners residents have opportunity to see a wonderful production of the well-known Nutcracker Ballet in nearby Johns Creek.

During this busy Christmas season, you don’t have to drive downtown or even to another community to see the spectacular Nutcracker Ballet. This year, for the first time, it is being performed in Johns Creek.

The Atlanta Professional Dance Academy and Perimeter Academy of the Arts Ballet are combining their talents to bring this performance to our community.  Under the direction of Wei Dongsheng, director of The Atlanta Professional Dance Academy, the ballet, performed at , is sure to be a hit.

Dongsheng was a principal dancer in China until 20 years ago when he moved to Atlanta to become a principal for the Atlanta Ballet. Now he runs a successful ballet school on Highway 141 in Johns Creek. Three years ago, with their number of high school dancers on the rise, the Perimeter Academy of the Arts began subletting space at Dongsheng’s state-of-the-art studio and thus a relationship was born.

Becky Brown, one of the directors of the Perimeter ballet school, is glad to have her dancers invited to perform with Dongsheng’s school. At the school they’ve had the chance to practice pas de deux, or partner dancing; a good opportunity for the girls there who intend to pursue dancing when they go to college.

Brown is pleased to be presenting this classic ballet for the community at Perimeter Church. She explains that it’s a perfect time for families to come together to experience the ballet. You don’t have to travel far, the view from each seat is good and the price is right.

Brown says of her dancers that, “The girls are eager to learn this ballet just as she was when she was a girl. It helps give the students a well-rounded dance education.”  Dancing the leading roles is the production are:  Wei Dongsheng, the director (Prince), Mary Scott (Sugar Plum Fairy), Sarah Kiker and Patricia Ford (Snow Queen), Emily Grace Finnell and Abby Heringer (Dew Drop), Meggie Cruser and Ansley Christensen (Clara),  Jenna Amburgy and Lauren Morris/Lian Dellasala and Leslie Wenning (Demi-soloists).
