Change, Change, Change

New City, Big Change

How much change should you expect from the new city?  If you like Peachtree Corners as it is, then you would not expect much change to come from the new limited services city.  It is the place you bought your home, decided to raise your kids, do your shopping, and earn your living.  Maintain the status quo.  Keep Peachtree Corners the same great place you decided to invest in.

I acknowledge the need to protect our community from the inattentive and out-of-touch county government as one of the main reasons to incorporate.  I also want to protect the integrity of our community.  That includes protecting us from an overly aggressive city government.  That means that the only expected change is to local control of three limited services at minimal cost.

It is the unexpected change that can turn this limited city into another overbearing government intruding in our lives.  Additional services can be added at any time with a majority vote of a pro-government council and a quiet, off-election year referendum that few voters are aware of.  With these sorts of unexpected changes comes a significant change in the revenue required to operate and the taxes needed to support it.

Our focus should be on these three services only.  Those services are trash, code enforcement, and zoning.  The citizens voted on a limited city: this is what should be delivered and no more.  If I am your city council representative for At Large Post 5, I will be a vigilant in protecting us from creeping government growth.  I will not let an elite few who think they know what’s best take your money to change Peachtree Corners to suit them.
