All Aboard -- Next Stop Peachtree Station

A little history of this Peachtree Corners subdivision and a look at the current market.

From time to time I like to share information about various neighborhoods in our area. This week I’ll focus on Peachtree Station in the heart of Peachtree Corners and include a little history of Peachtree Station as I’ve seen it grow and mature.

Don’t miss the report on the present real estate market in the neighborhood. It may be time for you to make a move.

Peachtree Station was the vision of Jim Cowart. Anyone who has lived in the area knows what he has contributed to the area. When Dunwoody was beginning to run out of land Cowart saw an opportunity to expand to a new undeveloped area called Peachtree Corners.

Horse farms and trailers were all part of the makeup of the area. Peachtree Station was among the first to be developed. There are approximately 600 homes in the neighborhood.

When Cowart started developing he was one of the first to offer beautiful entry ways and amenity packages. Little did he dream that his vision would lead to award winning swim teams with ribbons lining the walls of the children’s rooms?  There are also the dedicated tennis players who consistently send teams to get their silver plates. He selected builders with care and all were required to adhere to his quality guidelines.

I am reminded of the value of Peachtree Station often by young couples coming to me to help them find a home, not just any home but one in Peachtree Station. They explain that one or both had grown up in Peachtree Station. They graduated from college, went out on their own, married, had a child or children then came back to their roots so their own family could experience the quality of life in Peachtree Station.

I would be remiss in not mentioning the Peachtree Station Homeowners Association. In the first few years Peachtree Station was a voice not only for Peachtree Station but for the entire Peachtree Corners area. They were instrumental in many zoning issues, protecting property values in the area. As Peachtree Corners expanded, the United Peachtree Corners Civic Association (UPCCA) was formed to carry on this work.

Peachtree Station shares the name of the train station just north of downtown Atlanta.. Naming the streets in a subdivision can be challenging but not for Jim Cowart who named each street for a small town in South Georgia. Get a map and check off the towns. All are small communities, whistle stops like Peachtree Station.

It has always been a highly desirable neighborhood. Families love the tree-lined streets, large lots and the constantly updated and improved amenity package.

There are currently 12 homes on the market. five homes have sold since Jan. 1, 2011. There are four pending (under contract but still have contingencies). In 2010 there was a 13-month supply of homes on the market. There currently is a 14.45 month supply. If nothing changes in the market, it will take 14.45 months to sell the current inventory.

The homes pictured are examples of some of the homes on the market. These homes will give you a feel for this beautiful neighborhood.
