Developer Named For 20-Acre Tract Across From The Forum

"We received three outstanding proposals, it was not an easy decision," said Dan Graveline, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority.

The City of Peachtree Corners on Monday moved a step closer to finalizing the plans for the property across from The Forum.

At the September 30th meeting the Peachtree Corners Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced which of the three developers it had chosen for the 20.6 acre tract of land across from The Forum.

Atlanta-based Fuqua Development was selected as the first choice to create a mixed use development on the city-owned undeveloped land.

"We received three outstanding proposals," said DDA chairman, Dan Graveline. "It was not an easy decision. All were top notch choices."

The DDA took a lot of time in making the decision said Diana Wheeler, the city's Community Development Director. "I thought they were all good. It was a very thoughtful decision. But the DDA has made the hard decision so we can move forward."

Wheeler said that after the due diligence period the developer will create conceptual plan to present to the city, probably sometime next spring. Eventually those plans will go through the Planning Commission for consideration.

Wheeler noted that the public will have "lots of opportunity to add input" during the process.

During the due diligence period the city and developer will work on agreements for the sale and development of the property, a process that is expected to take 60-90 days said Graveline.

To formalize the decision, Michael McLaughlin read the motion naming Fuqua the authority's "first ranked respondent" and L.C. Johnson seconded the motion. It was passed 6-0 with one board member absent, David Willey.

The DDA's second choice is the TPA Group. In the event Fuqua and the city are unable to come to an agreement then TPA, a 42-year-old company founded by Paul Duke, would step in as developer.

Ruth Strickland read the motion to select TPA Group as the second ranked choice, Gene Witkin seconded the motion which passed 6-0.
