Keep Georgia Safe Executive Director Mary Ellen Fukus is featured at the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club's first meeting of the year.

 

The first meeting of 2012 for the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club began with important information for all parents and guardians on how to keep their children safe. Mary Ellen Fulkus, Executive Director of Keep Georgia Safe. She is also the founder of The Safe-T-Net, Inc. a safety and security training and consulting company for schools, businesses, adults and children.

Fulkus has a background in education and teaching and child protection instruction which fully prepared her for her post as Executive Director of Keep Georgia Safe, where she oversees all safety curriculum development, program implementation, trainings, and community and media awareness. She also works as an Independent Consultant within the Criminal Justice Services Child Protection Training for Fox Valley Technical College, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative.

Keep Georgia Safe provides safety education and crime prevention training through:

  • Child Abduction Recovery Teams (CART): Keep Georgia Safe  coordinates and sponsors CART training and certification, a  multi-disciplinary approach for first responders to recover missing or  abducted children.  All participating state and local agencies combine  valuable resources and practice search techniques and strategies for the  safe return of abducted children.
  • radKIDS Training: Keep Georgia Safe coordinates and sponsors  this transformational hands-on educational program that provides tools  and skills for trainers to teach children on how to recognize, avoid,  resist and escape violence, abduction and harm.
  • School Curriculum Initiative: Curriculum for Georgia schools to teach age-appropriate safety empowerment programs and awareness.
  • Media Campaigns: Public service information on safety education and crime prevention.
  • Web and Electronic Outreach: Website content providing free safety tips and additional resources for proactive education and crime prevention.

In March of 2009 and 2007, Fulkus participated in the CART (Child Abduction Response Team) AMBER Alert Training in Atlanta, Georgia and Houston, Texas, respectively.  She is a nationally-certified RAD (Resisting Aggression Defensively) Kids Instructor and a participant in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Training Conference on Crimes Against Children, in Pensacola, Florida.

A former 8th grade teacher, Fulkus completed a Graduate Leadership
Certification Program in Public School Administration at The University of
Georgia in 2004. She also earned a master's degree in education from Mercer University in Atlanta, and received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University.
