Serving Up Good Food and Good Service, J.R.’s Log House Restaurant

A Peachtree Corners favorite, this well-established eatery has been serving great barbecue for over 25 years.

Driving south on Peachtree Corners Circle, just when you think you’ve almost left Peachtree Corners there it is up on the left, . And there it has been since only a single traffic light held sway right there on S.R. 141. Lots have changed since then, except for the friendly service and consistently good food to be had at this long established eatery.

When Jerry Romano “J.R.” bought the property back in 1983 the current owner, Tim Shaw who had already been working with J.R. for some time, said that he wondered about the decision. Actually he said, “I thought J.R. was crazy.” Fortunately for all of us we’re still reaping the benefits of that crazy decision.

When I pulled up to the restaurant at 1 p.m., I could barely find a parking space; that about says it all. I was shown to a table, greeted by a friendly server named Alicia and then faced with a menu that I knew would make my decisions difficult.

Of course it had to be barbeque. Wanting to be fair minded I tried two types, pork and chicken. When Alicia asked which I liked best, I really couldn’t decide, they were both good. It’s all about the sauce I concluded. I also tried the Brunswick stew which was great. (I’m a Brunswick stew fan.) I tried a variety of veggies and also tasted the banana pudding. Dinner for that night was definitely not on my radar screen.

As if lunch and dinner aren’t enough, breakfast is something not to be passed up at J.R.’s. Big-as-you-face pancakes, as I lovingly refer to them, are one of the attractions. If you prefer, you might try the eggs, meat and homemade biscuits. Yum.

Customer loyalty is one thing that J.R.’s can boast about. Shaw says that he “loves seeing regular customers,” which about 85 percent of them are. “Building relationships is important,” he explains.

J.R.’s has two meeting rooms, one holds 40 people, the other 55. Catering is another big part of their business and success. They do both drop off and full service catering.
