The day was highlighted by Peachtree Corners future mayor, Mike Mason cutting the ribbon with Uchida Sensei recognizing the special event of expanding the karate school’s presence in the shopping center and providing additional instructional space for teaching Taido to children.

The Taido Karate School is the only one of its kind in the United States.  Uchida came from Japan over 30 years ago to teach the “thinking man’s” form of karate in the Georgia.  Uchida Sensei’s Taido Karate School has been a fixture in the Peachtree Corners community for over 25 years offering instruction to residents in and around the area.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included Uchida Sensei utilizing a Japanese Samurai sword with Mason in the well-attended event. It was the first ribbon cutting ceremony for Mason, since his recent unopposed victory as the City of Peachtree Corner’s inaugural mayor. The students participated in traditional mochi ceremony with rice prepared by the Japanese restaurant next door to the Taido School.

Ushida Sensei joked with the crowd of well-wishers that one day the entire shopping center will be a karate studio and sushi restaurant in the future.

The Taido Karate Studio operates 6 days a week in the Spalding Shopping Center, offering instructional lessons for people of all ages.  For more information 770-242-6406.
