It's National Strawberry month!

There are lots of good reasons to eat strawberries, and lots of ways to enjoy them, too.

If you love ice cream, gelato, or a nice low-cal frozen yogurt make some mini cones using strawberries for the cones, as pictured here. You can affix them to fancy toothpicks for serving to guests, or just place three on a plate, as I did here.

Aside from being juicy and delicious, berries are rich in antioxidants which are tied to many health benefits, including preventing memory loss. But a major contribution they can make to health is in helping to prohibit free radical development, which research ties to preventing cell damage and possibly reducing your risk of cancer. They help improve blood regulation, too. And strawberries taste delicious!

How do you select the berries that will give you the biggest health benefit and best taste?

The "eyes" have it. Optimal strawberry ripeness can be judged by color. You'll want to consume your strawberries when their red color is most vibrant.

Other great ways to enjoy strawberries are in a mixed berry salad or on top of cake, ice cream, or other desserts. Check out some pictures to give you a few ideas in my full post here.

Turn your lips red from eating strawberries this month and enjoy some health benefits too!
