Health & Fitness

At Fowler Y, we believe if you can do it on land, you can do some version of it in the water!

Have you ever considered including water fitness into your exercise routine? This can be a great way to increase strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health. Plus, during the hot summer months, what better way to keep cool?

“Blending the science of safe and effective exercise design with the powerful properties of water, water exercise works for a multitude of ages, fitness levels, and body types.  You do not have to be a swimmer to participate, nor get your hair wet, or put your face in the water,” said Jan Nance, Certified Aquatics Instructor.

The low-impact water environment allows participants to improve cardiovascular and strength conditioning while protecting joints and promoting joint flexibility. Whether you can swim or not, most classes are suitable for everyone.

In a recent study the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concluded that “exercising in water offers many physical and mental health benefits and is a good choice for people who want to be more active. When in the water, remember to protect yourself and others from illness and injury by practicing healthy and safe swimming behaviors.”

Water can satisfy your thirst – not just for your physical body but for your mind and soul as well.  Why not drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water and take a dip in the Y pool to experience the benefits yourself?
