Come to Firenze for the Fresh Taste of Italian in Peachtree Corners

On the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Jay Bird Alley you'll find Firenze, a new Italian restaurant for us to enjoy.

As you walk into you find yourself in a crisp and polished dining room. Clean lines and contemporary fixtures are well suited to the space. It seems an easy place to relax, unwind and enjoy a casual/elegant Italian meal.

I enjoyed talking to Chef Andrea Montobbio about the new menu at Firenze. I enjoyed even more, trying it out. Born and raised in Northern Italy, Montobbio hails from a family that was involved in winemaking and always had a fresh vegetable garden.

From Montobbio’s background comes his cooking philosophy that you should alway start with the freshest and best quality ingredients available. And fresh is exactly what he serves at Firenze. The pastas, breads, sauces and desserts are made fresh from scratch in-house. Every pasta, sauce and dessert that I tried, and yes I tasted all of the above, was very good.

The menu is a la carte and in light of that I wished that the salad, the Insalata Mista at $6-$7, had been a little more interesting and either larger, so that it could easily be shared, or less expensive. The entree prices range from $6-$11 for lunch and $10-$26 for dinner.

Chef says that the homemade pasta dishes are among the favorites on the menu so that seemed like a good place to start. But before the pasta he brought me, and my daughter who was dining with me, an antipasti called Fritto Misto--Deep fried calamari, grouper (catch of the day), shrimp, fresh artichokes and tobacco onions with a roasted garlic aioli. We were happy.

We became happier as we tried the very popular Mezzelune--homemade roasted butternut squash ravioli, with scallops, brown butter and fried sage. My daughter, Sarah Frey commented that that dish was, “a perfect combination of savory and sweet.” My comments about all of the entrees, which she encouraged me to quote, were, “Yum, yum. Yum, yum, yum.” A little less descriptive than her comment but it gets to the point.

We also enjoyed some Spaghetti Dell Elba--a fresh black ink spaghetti with clams, shrimp and fresh vegetables topped with saffron. Finally we tasted the Pappardelle al Sugo di Agnello--a lamb, mint, olive and wild mushroom pasta dish.

Even though we were feeling replete, the chef stopped by to offer us dessert which we quickly declined. He expressed some disapproval and said that he was bringing us dessert and we could take just one bite. We both knew better than that, but okay, twist our arms. We had homemade cheesecake topped with fresh fruit and Cappuccino Tiramisu; some of the best I’ve tasted. Needless to say, we did not take just one bite.

After the meal, while I was still taking small bites of the Tiramisu, in talking with owner Fred Azadi I learned that Firenze opened it’s doors this past October. During Christmas they hosted quite a few Christmas parties. A couple of the parties used the entire restaurant and others where held in the private rooms in the back. There is a room that will seat 45 or it can be divided into two separate spaces for smaller groups. Firenze also offers catering throughout the Atlanta area.

Azadi says that Peachtree Corners is a great area and he loves having his restaurant here. Having been in the restaurant business since he opened his first place in South Hampton, NY in 1984, Azadi knows a thing or two about good restaurants and good neighborhoods. He says that, “Firenze is striving to be the best Italian in Atlanta.”

Stop by and give our fresh, new Italian restaurant a try. And say hello to the Tiramisu for me.
