Five Things to Know

For your calendar: Upcoming events for Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake residents.

1. Tuesday, Nov. 8, is the big day - voters in Peachtree Corners will decide on whether to make their community a city. And all voters in Gwinnett County will choose whether to extend the 1-cent sales tax SPLOST to help fund the public schools' list of improvements such as technology upgrades and air-conditioning for gyms and kitchens. 2. Like to dance the night away? The Norcross Cluster Schools Partnership is holding a Harvest Homecoming Dance to help raise funds for the nine schools in the Norcross Cluster. Where: The , When: Nov. 12, Cost, $40 each. To purchase tickets or for more information visit NCSP's website.

3. Are you one of the frustrated drivers using I-85 and find the new HOT Lane has just added to the traffic congestion? Then mark your calendars for Thursday, Nov. 17 for a Town Hall Meeting from 7-9 p.m. Sen. Curt Thompson (D-Tucker) and Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford) are co-hosting a meeting which will be held in the main auditorium of the .  State Road and Toll Authority officials and the Georgia Dept. of Transportation will give brief comments, as will both of the senators. The floor will then be open to the public for comments and questions. A statement in the release notes that Patch received said, “Verbal attacks or insults towards Town Hall participants will not be tolerated."

4. Next Friday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. Gwinnett County offices will be closed as will the U.S. Post Office and banks. Solid Waste Haulers will follow their normal trash and recycling pickup schedule on Veterans Day. However, the Gwinnett County Solid Waste and Recycling Call Center will be closed that day, but hauler call centers will be open. 5. Time to get out your running shoes. The and are teaming up this year for the annual Turkey Trot Fun Run to be held at Berkeley Lake Elementary School on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8:00 a.m. This year the Lake Berkeley Chapel is assisting with the school’s run rather than having a separate one of their own. Funds raised will benefit the school. Sign up for a 4-mile run and 1.5 mile fun run around the streets of Berkley Lake, Cost $15. Funds raised support the teacher directed physical education program.
