The tornado watch that had been issued until noon for north Georgia, including Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake, has been canceled, but the worst of the severe weather may come later today, according to weather forecasts.
A fast-moving squall line of storms, which have prompted tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings across north Alabama this morning, is expected to hit the area by noon, according to weather.com. However, that’s expected to be only the first round of today’s severe weather. Weather.com calls today’s threat as “significant and life-threatening.”
The threat increases later today with the approach of a very strong cold front.
The National Weather Service Forecast Center in Peachtree City says tornadoes are likely in today’s “major severe weather event.” The service says tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds are expected throughout the day and well into the evening.
