Voter Turnout Light at One Peachtree Corners Poll Location

Voter turnout typically is around 10 percent.

Peachtree Corners voters have two big ticket items on the ballot Nov. 5 - a referendum to grant the city redevelopment powers and to approve Gwinnett County's 1-cent sales tax which the city would benefit from.

Yet voter turnout was light for one location, Simpson Elementary School which is located in the heart of the city.

At almost 4 p.m. only 170  had cast their votes.

Bennie Hayes, poll manager said the poll location has approximately 2,500 registered voters.

Patch caught up with one long-time Peachtree Corners resident who declined to give his name, to ask his thoughts on SPLOST and the city's referendum.

"I voted no for SPLOST," he said. His reasoning was that he preferred the county use bonds to fund projects rather than giving them a pot full of money to "find projects."

And on the city's referendum for redevelopment powers? "I voted yes," he answered. "I think the referendum is a good idea for the city."

Check back with Patch later tonight - we will post the results as soon as they are in.
