Wilson Pickett: "25 at the Top" Exhibit

R&B LEGEND WILSON PICKETT EXHIBIT OPENS IN NORCROSS

Gold records & personal paraphernalia, a chance to meet Wilson’s brother and a live performance of the famous artist’s greatest hits mark the opening evening of this month-long exhibit open to the public in the Norcross Arts Center.

City of Norcross, Georgia – An exhibit titled “Wilson Pickett: 25 at the Top” will open in The Norcross Arts Center (17 College Street) on Friday, February 8th, 2013, with a free reception and live music from 6pm to 8:30pm. A major figure in the development of American soul music, Pickett recorded over 50 songs which made the US R&B charts, and frequently crossed over to the US Billboard Hot 100. Among his best known hits are "Land of 1,000 Dances", "Mustang Sally", and "Funky Broadway".  Pickett's forceful, passionate style of singing was developed in church and on the streets of Detroit, and his breakthrough came when he recorded "In the Midnight Hour" in 1965. This song became Pickett's first big hit, selling over one million copies and earning him his first gold record.

25 At the Top is a pictorial overview of Pickett’s career which includes original programs, clothing, posters, scores, photos, recordings, awards, video footage and gold records. On opening night, Maxwell (Wilson’s brother) and his wife Brenda Pickett will attend, sharing stories about Pickett, while Atlanta-based musician, songwriter and producer Jerome Olds performs many of Pickett’s hits.   Mr. Olds has performed on The David Lettermen Show and with The Four Tops, The Temptations, Tina Turner at Atlanta’s Chastain Park Amphitheater.

The exhibit will remain open to the public every Thursday in February from 1pm- 5pm, and by appointment. In addition to the February 8th opening night, the Norcross Arts Center will be open from 6pm- 8:30pm on February 15 and 22, when Jerome Olds is again performing live.
