St. Lucia Festival of Lights Celebration
St. Lucia Festival Lights celebration begins atΒ 7:30 p.m. The church has free parking, but seating is limited.
Traditional and contemporary Swedish Christmas music will fill the candlelit celebration. It will feature the St. Lucia Choir, with children, men and women from the Swedish community. Mia Peters will conduct the performance, with Gabriel Granitz accompanying the choir on piano.
The St. Lucia tradition is celebrated in Sweden and to some extent in other Scandanavian countries. A young Lucia wears a long, white gown with a red sash and a crown of lighted candles. She is attended by a group of singing attendants in festive holiday costumes. Saffron buns and gingersnaps would be offered by Lucia, as well as coffee, to everyone she saw on the morning ofΒ Dec. 13.
