Norcross High Listed Among America's Most Challenging Schools by Washington Post

Norcross was among the 1,900 schools nationwide to make the list.

Norcross High School has been named to a list of institutions that challenge their students to excel.

Norcross was 275th out of the 1,900 schools that made the America's Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post. That was third-highest among Gwinnett schools listed.

Only 9 percent of the roughly 22,000 public high schools earned placement on the 2014 list.

In all, 20 county schools were named to the list.

Gwinnett School of Math, Science & Tech in Lawrenceville was the county’s and state’s highest ranked school at No. 17.

The index formula used for the rankings measures public and private high schools’ ability to challenge their students. A school’s ranking is determined by dividing the number of college-level tests given by a school to all its students by the number of graduates for that year.  Gwinnett schools ranked by the Washington Post (with national ranking):

Gwinnett School of Math, Science & Tech (17th), North Gwinnett (197th), Norcross (275th), Meadowcreek (355th), Lanier (381st), Berkmar (418th), Brookwood (487th), Parkview (685th), Buford (690th), Peachtree Ridge (894th), Shiloh (899th), Duluth (970th), Mountain View (1,016th), Archer (1,026th), Central Gwinnett (1,124th), Dacula (1,177th), Mill Creek (1,182nd), South Gwinnett (1,272nd), Collins Hill (1,327th), Grayson (1,817th).
