The inaugural Peachtree Corners Art Fest, planned for Oct. 13 - has a new name - and a new venue for the one day festival.
The event organizer, Jay Lowe, announced the name and location change recently. The event will now be held at a location on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in the city limits of Berkeley Lake, thus the name change.
Its new name - Peachtree Corners Art Fest at Berkeley Lake - reflects the location change, but Lowe said there will be many Peachtree Corners local artists, restaurants and other businesses who will have display booths at the event.
The decision to move the event Lowe said was because Jay Bird Alley, the original location for the event, could not be closed to traffic.
Lowe presented the idea and information to the Berkeley Lake City Council in a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
"The first person I emailed was you Mayor Salter," said Lowe after he learned that the original Peachtree Corners location was not feasible.
"This will be a turn key event," said Lowe to the Berkeley Lake mayor and City Council during the meeting. "We expect over 100 vendors." Lowe said the event will include a kid's zone play area as well.
Lowe said he anticipated 10,000 to attend.
Lowe will work with the city to hammer out the details of crowd control, sanitation, signage and ensuring that the city's noise ordinance is followed during the event.
"I think it's a great way to build a bridge between Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake," said Lowe.
Mayor Salter said the city would need to draw up resolution and review the event's insurance provisions before moving ahead with the plans for the art fest and asked City Council for a consensus from the council on whether to proceed.
All council members were in favor of moving ahead and expect to meet on Wednesday, Sept. 26, to review a draft of the resolution. The address of the new location is 4650 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. For event questions, call 404-448-4701.
