Peachtree Corners Trivia Challenge Results Are In

Here are the answers to the trivia contest. Compare your answers - and find out who won.

Thanks to all of you who sent in answers to our Peachtree Corners Trivia Challenge which first ran on March 29th. As promised here are the answers to most of our 10 questions - and the name of the winner.

1. Name the original anchor store located where OfficeMax is located. This is the OfficeMax in the Flying Biscuit shopping center.  Bruno’s Grocery, headquartered in Birmingham, AL would be the store. Everyone was so excited when it openned because it was a grocery store with carpet on the floors and crystal chandeliers.

2. What restaurant occupied the space where the Krystal is now located at Peachtree Parkway and Holcomb Bridge Road?  Mighty Casey would be the place. The only fast food in Peachtree Corners at the time.

5.  What is the oldest Church in Peachtree Corners? There were several guesses on this but no one got it right. This is Mt. Carmel Methodist Church which was made of hewn timber on the current site in 1827. There is a great article about Mt Carmel in Peachtree Corners Patch that appeared on Feb. 4, 2011.

6. Name the original anchor store for the shopping center that is located near the intersection of Jimmy Carter and Hwy 141. Hard one, based on the answers, but that would be Uptons Department Store. Great place to shop.

7. What is the oddest thing that has ever landed in your Peachtree Corners neighborhood? If you lived in the area for a while you might remember when a flotilla of hot air balloons got off track and landed in various spots around Peachtree Corner. One landed just around the corner from my home. Hundreds of young and old alike gathered to watch these colorful balloons descend.

8.  Name the developer that developed these neighborhoods, Peachtree Forest, Amhurst subdivision,The Orchards and River Place. Bonus points if you can name the company that marketed these neighborhoods. Amhurst Developers developed these communities. They had their own real estate company named Peachtree Crossing Realty.

9. I want to know where the oldest home in The City of Peachtree Corners is located. Send in your thoughts and photos if you think you know.  Post photos, if you know  the answer on PeachtreeCorners Patch. Still unknown but we will find the answer. Unfortunately online records that we use in our real estate business do not go far enough back to reveal this information. It might take some research at the Gwinnett Court House, unless you know.

10. Challenge to all, help me find the name of the person that has lived in the area we now call The City of Peachtree Corners for the longest time. Still looking.

Thanks to all who showed their knowledge of our beautiful city. The winner is John Wasinger. He grew up in Peachtree Corners, and will next week be moving back to the community that is now a city. Congratulations John.
